No water source pollution following burning lorry incident — Luas

SHAH ALAM, Oct 17 — The accident involving a burnt lorry along Seksyen C6 KM42.6 in Bandar Baru Nilai did not result in contamination of any water sources in the area, said the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas).

Having received information at 11.30am today, its personnel rushed to the site and inspected the surrounding areas to identify any pollution risks to nearby water sources or rivers.

“The on-site inspection revealed a lorry carrying a load of palm kernel shells for charcoal production caught fire, reportedly at 6.45am this morning.

“The Fire and Rescue Department successfully extinguished the fire. Meanwhile, highway concessionaire PLUS and the lorry’s owner carried out cleanup work,” Luas said in a statement.

The agency identified the closest water source to the incident as Sungai Jenderam, approximately 950 metres away, while the nearest water treatment plant (WTP) is Bukit Tampoi at 15.15 km, followed by the Labohan Dagang WTP at 26.05 km.

“Further investigation found no signs of pollutant flow into nearby drains and ditches or entering the river. No potential pollution can disrupt the water treatment plants’ operations.

“Luas remains vigilant and prepared to ensure any potential risks to water quality issues are promptly addressed,” it said.
