SHAH ALAM, Nov 12 — The Sultan of Selangor and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor have both extended their wishes for the Deepavali festival, which falls today, to the Indian community.

The Selangor Royal Office said Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin hope the Festival of Lights will be celebrated in a harmonious, respectful, and united atmosphere.

“May the abundance of light, symbolising the celebration of Deepavali, continue to illuminate the spirit of unity among the different communities in Malaysia as they face the challenges ahead,” it said in a Facebook post.

Earlier today, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari similarly extended his wishes to the Indian community for Deepavali.

Others who did so include Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, as well as several Cabinet ministers.
