Assemblyman seeks Adun Muda Selangor programme revival to entice youths into politics

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

SHAH ALAM, March 1 — A proposal has been made to the state government to reintroduce the Adun Muda Selangor programme to encourage more youths to enter the political arena.

Kota Damansara state assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Kasim said such an initiative would help to change young people’s perceptions about politics.

“This is a great programme; I myself am an alumni of this programme and I know it will work on youths.

“We need to educate our youths that politics isn’t about perceptions or slander but an obligation, like what we are now doing during our debates in the State Legislative Assembly.

“We need facts to back us up,” he said yesterday when debating Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj’s royal address at the opening of this year’s assembly session.

Izuan also said he is willing to work with any parties to bring back the programme.

“It is vital that all state representatives and government agencies work together. The responsibility of growing the state lies not just on the shoulders of the menteri besar, the excos or the assemblymen,” he added.
