SHAH ALAM, Mar 13 — Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung is determined to nurture the urban city into a vibrant industry-university research hub.
He said collaborations between industry players and education institutions, like the recent one between leading Dutch semiconductor designer and manufacturer NXP Semiconductors and Universiti Malaya (UM), are a pivotal cornerstone in this endeavour.
“It bridges academia and industry to expedite innovation, research, and talent development,” he said in a statement.
On March 1, NXP Malaysia Sdn Bhd inked a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with UM that sought to address the growing demand for skilled semiconductor testing professionals in Malaysia, support the industry’s expansion and drive economic development.
The signing at UM’s Engineering Faculty was witnessed by Lee and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands’ representative Isabelle Niekrake.
He said the partnership will cultivate more high-growth, high-value job opportunities in the country, in line with Malaysia’s long-term economic restructuring plan.
“By adhering to the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP), we can accelerate the country’s transition and open up substantial investment opportunities.
“A robust semiconductor ecosystem translates to a resilient economy, strengthening Malaysia’s economic landscape and mitigating the impact of currency fluctuations,” he said.
Lee added that he will continue collaborating with semiconductor industry players and academic institutions to embark on a transformative journey and propel innovation to new heights.
The MoA between NXP and UM aligns with Malaysia’s key role in the global semiconductor testing market, contributing significantly to the industry’s growth.
According to industry reports, Malaysia’s semiconductor testing market is expected to witness robust growth in the coming years, driven by increasing demand for electronic devices and advancements in semiconductor technology.
