Olympic Day organiser admits launching sports attire on mannequins a faux pas

KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 — The organiser of a World Olympic Day celebration at a shopping centre here on Sunday, MY Creative Moments, admitted to an awkward launch of the national contingent’s official attire for the Paris Olympics.

MY Creative Moments managing director Wong Kang Woon apologised in a statement today to the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), the Youth and Sports Ministry and sports fans for misgivings that arose from the launch.

“We acknowledge our shortcomings and take responsibility for any flaws in the management and organisation of the event, as well as (attracting) comments from fans and netizens that affect the overall image of OCM. We wish OCM and the Malaysian contingent the best of luck,” he said.

After the launch, sports fans on social media expressed displeasure at the official uniform designs, which they claimed to be “backward and uninspired” compared with previous editions of the national contingent’s uniforms, and mocked the launch of the attire on static mannequins.

The Paris Olympics take place from July 26 to August 11.
