HULU LANGAT, April 24 — Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah embarked on a three-day tour of the Gagasan Rumpun Selangor grassroots initiative in the Hulu Langat district beginning today.

Accompanied by state executive councillor for unity Datuk Rizam Ismail, His Highness visited several locations across the district and met the people, participating in various programmes.

Among the key highlights of the first day of his tour was the launch of the Permata@Pintar Antarabangsa programme at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

The initiative aims to expand opportunities for quality education to international students.

UKM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Mohd Ekhwan Toriman said the programme is an initiative of the university’s Pusat Permata@Pintar Negara, which is designed specifically for intellectually gifted students with high potential talent.

“Permata@Pintar Antarabangsa comprises the Smart Foundation Programme (Program Asasi Pintar), School Holiday Camping Programme (Programme Perkhemahan Cuti Sekolah) and Smart School Programme (Program Sekolah Pintar).

“So far, cooperation has been initiated with China, Oman and Qatar,” he said after the launching ceremony by Tengku Amir Shah at the Pusat Permata Pintar Negara, here, today.

According to Ekhwan, the Smart Foundation Programme is set to commence in September with the enrolling of about 300 students.

The School Holiday Camping Programme and Smart School Programme, meanwhile, will begin in June this year and February next year respectively.

Following that, His Highness received briefings on the district’s work and development plans from various authorities, including the district and land office, Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), Kajang Municipal Council, district education office, health office and district police chief.

As part of the three-day tour until Friday, Tengku Amir Shah is also scheduled to visit several locations such as the Al-Ubudiah Mosque at Kampung Tasek Tambahan, Ampang and MPAJ’s food court.

His Highness will also visit the Jalan Reko Downtown night market, Roti Canai Teras Jernang stall, Kajang Wall Mural, Satay Kajang food court and Bangi Square 2.

Various interesting programmes have been lined up at each location such as football clinics, walkabout with Selangor FC players, silat, cultural performances and busking.

Gagasan Rumpun Selangor is a state grassroots initiative that aims to foster unity and celebrate the diverse cultural heritage in Selangor.

It stands as a key framework to unify the populace and subsequently propel the state’s socioeconomic development.

Previously, when tabling the 2024 Selangor Budget, Amirudin announced an allocation of RM4.5 million to ensure the successful implementation of the Gagasan Rumpun Selangor in all nine districts.

Its implementation includes six main agendas, namely carnivals and explorations; policies; unity songs; structuring and empowering village leadership institutions; branding of educational institutions for children; and promotion and advocacy programmes for the people.
