State rep urges contractors to prioritise road safety during water pipe replacement works

SHAH ALAM, April 21 — Contractors who have been awarded the project for replacing water pipes in the Dusun Tua state constituency are reminded to carry out their work according to the Public Works Department’s (JKR) standards.

Its state assemblyman Datuk Wira Johan Abdul Aziz expressed disappointment over the neglect of road safety while conducting the repair works, despite several warnings issued.

In a Facebook statement yesterday, he said action would be taken against the contractor if they fail to address the issue promptly.

“I am unsure of how many warnings have been issued concerning the water pipe replacement work, which seems to be disregarded by the contractor. However, this will certainly be the last (such warning).

“Both Hulu Langat (MP Mohd Sany Hamzan) and I will act promptly to ensure the contractor is responsible for monitoring and supervising the pipe-laying work.

“Otherwise, I will personally take action against the contractor’s indifference, which clearly neglects road users’ safety,” Johan said.

On April 12, the assemblyman also expressed regret over the issue of pipe replacements not adhering to JKR standards during road repair work, despite being raised in the State Legislative Assembly session last month.
