Invest Selangor to increase cooperation with Indonesia

BY: NORHAYATI UMOR
SHAH ALAM, OCT 10:  Invest Selangor Berhad welcomes Indonesian investors into the country, especially into Selangor, to enhance strategic cooperation between the two countries towards mutual long-term benefits.
Chief Executive Officer Hassan Azhari Idris said this is timely as cooperation from Indonesia remains minimal, especially in the manufacturing sector despite its close ties with Malaysia.
He said, he will plan and implement several projects with related bodies to ensure that cooperation runs smoothly.
The state investment agency has previously visited Indonesia and met with small and medium businesses to promote Selangor International Expo (SIE) which will be held on October 20 to 22 at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre (MIECC).
Hassan said that around 30 Indonesian businessmen have expressed their interest to participate in the exhibition, which focuses on three sectors, namely halal products, ‘life sciences’ such as pharmaceutical, nutritional and biotechnological products as well as ‘e-commerce’.

“Our focus in the exhibition last year was more general. This year we emphasize on only three sectors,” he said during his visit to Indonesia recently.
Last year, there was a total of 40 Indonesian businessmen who participated in the exhibition and offered a variety of products such as food, clothing and cosmetics.
However, Hassan said that he is not setting any target for the participants since the exhibition is only in its second year.
He added that in the period from 1987 to 2015, there have been 36 manufacturing projects worth RM408 million involving Indonesian investors, with 4,259 potential job opportunities created.
“We appreciate the confidence of Indonesian investors in Selangor and we certainly expect more to join,” he said.
