SHAH ALAM, OCT 25: Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) was chosen to receive the Langkawi Award 2015/2016 for the growth category on October 22.
Corporate Communications Head Shahrin Ahmad said that the selection was based on commitment shown by MBSA in sustaining a green and prosperous environment.
He said, the evaluation takes into consideration the variety of programmes and activities based on green initiatives in making Shah Alam a low carbon city by 2030.
“MBSA has always focused on the concept and initiative of ‘Pembangunan Hijau’ in development.
“It sets out guidelines to improve the quality of a conducive environment by applying green elements in land-use planning, urban design, neighbourhood layout and others,” he said in a statement.
The award was presented by Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem to Shah Alam Mayor Dato’ Haji Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad, at the Kuching Waterfront, Sarawak.
Among programmes that qualified MBSA to receive the award was the Pengenalan Kempen Kitar Semula programme for schools around Shah Alam.
Shahrin said it includes Rubbish Collection Contest, ‘Shah Alam Trees For Life’ Tree-Planting Programme, Used Cooking Oil Collection Programme, Home Waste Segregation Programme, Food Waste to Compost Programme, Neighbourhood Gardens and Cycling Tracks Preparation.
“This award is an honour and will serve as a motivation for all MBSA staff.
“We will carry on giving more efficient services to society, especially the community of Shah Alam,” he said.
