Selangor’s contribution to GDP increased by 22.6%

SHAH ALAM, OCT 14: Selangor has managed to increase its contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 22.6% for 2015.
Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the amount reflects a 0.2% increase compared to the 22.4% contribution in the previous year.
“Selangor managed to increase its contribution while other states such as Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur faced a decline or remain at the same level as 2014.
“Although it is a small percentage, on overall, it’s very positive for Selangor, taking into account the current global economic situation,” he was speaking to over 200 civil servants.
He was speaking at the 2016 Selangor State Level Innovation Appreciation Ceremony at the SUK Building yesterday.

Also present were State Secretary Datuk Mohd Amin Ahmad Ahya and State Executive Councillors Datuk Teng Chang Khim and Dato ‘Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi.
Based on a report by the Statistics Department which was issued on September 30, Selangor topped the list of six biggest country’s GDP 2015 contributors.
Other states include the Federal Territory (FT) Kuala Lumpur with 15.1%, Sarawak (10%), Johore (9.3%) and Sabah and Penang 6.6% respectively.
In the construction sector, Selangor continues to contribute 31.8% compared to the Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur (24.4%) and Johor (12.3%).
In addition, Selangor is also the biggest contributor in the manufacturing sector with a share of 28.9 percent, followed by Penang (12.8%) and Johor (12.4%).
Selangor also dominated the service sector with a 25.1% contribution, closely followed by the Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur with 24.8%.
