PIDM: Beware of protection payment fraud

KUALA LUMPUR, OCT 16: The public is reminded not to entertain any request for payment or money transfer to pay for protection provided by Malaysian Insurance Deposit Corporation (PIDM).
PIDM Chief Executive Officer, Rafiz Azuan Abdullah said, PIDM provides automatic coverage for depositors, takaful certificate and insurance policy owners.
“PIDM do not ask for any payment from the public,” he said in a statement today.
According to Rafiz, PIDM was informed about the recent incidence where certain party who supposedly represented various organisations had contacted the public and asked for payment for PIDM coverage.

“We would also like to remind the public not to reveal their financial details especially bank account number or credit card details to a third party,” said Rafiz.
PIDM was established under PIDM Act with the role to administer the Deposit Insurance System and Takaful Benefits and Insurance Protection System.
It protects depositors, whether individual or company, from loss of insured savings, as well as takaful certificate and insurance policy owners from loss of takaful benefits and insurance, in the event of failure of its members, comprising of commercial and Islamic banks as well as insurance companies and takaful agents.
