Two-week lockdown in seven Hulu Langat villages effective March 30

SHAH ALAM, March 29 — The Federal government has announced an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in seven villages in Hulu Langat effective from March 30 to April 13.

Following the 71 positive Covid-19 cases identified among 274 residents of a tahfiz school there, the two-week enhanced order will involve areas of Batu 21 to Batu 24 in Sungai Lui.

In a statement today, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the EMCO will involve 3,918 residents from 700 households.

“This includes seven villages — two Orang Asli and five Malay villages — effective midnight tonight, from March 30 to April 14,” he said in the statement.

The Hulu Langat district is the second area in Malaysia, after Simpang Renggam, which had been ordered under the EMCO, following the spike in Covid-19 cases.

The Federal government had on March 27 implemented the enhanced order in Kampung Dato’ Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Dato’ Ibrahim Majid.

Ismail said the EMCO in Sungai Lui was enforced due to the high number of positive Covid-19 cases involving the Maahad Tahfiz AnNabawiyyah students at Batu 23.

Similar to the enhanced order on Simpang Renggam, visitors and non-residents are not allowed into the area and all business activities will be suspended during the period.

All entry points into the area would also be barred.

“Food supply for the next 14 days will be provided to the residents by the Social Welfare Department and a Medical Base will be opened in the affected areas

“To ensure compliance with the order, the Royal Malaysian Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM)and the Malaysian Volunteer Corps (Rela) personnel will control the restricted area,” said Ismail, who is also the Defence Minister.

Ismail had urged the residents to remain calm and give full cooperation to the Health Ministry workers. He also asked for the people to follow the orders from the authorities.
