EMCO in Kampung Datuk Ibrahim Majid ends tomorrow

PUTRAJAYA, April 27 — The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in Kampung Datuk Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Datuk Ibrahim Majid in Simpang Renggam, Kluang, in Johor, will end tomorrow, Senior Minister (security cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today.

During the daily press conference on the MCO, the minister said all restrictions which had been enforced on the areas would be lifted.

He said the EMCO in Sungai Lui, Hulu Langat in Selangor, however, which involved a tahfiz centre and one particular house, has been extended to May 5.

The EMCO in the area was initially scheduled to end tomorrow.

The lifting of the EMCO means that the areas would now be placed under the normal MCO.

Meanwhile, when asked on positive Covid-19 cases involving traders at the Selayang Wholesale Market, Ismail Sabri said the matter would be discussed with the Ministry of Health for further action.

On the viral video clip concerning Rohingya refugees, he said the police were investigating the case.

Ismail Sabri, who is also Defence Minister, also called on the public to stay calm and not to sensationalise the issue to the extent of jeopardising public order and security.

“Let’s not raise issues that can cause anger and unwanted situations. Malaysia is a peaceful country and has been very considerate towards everyone here. Stay calm and let the police investigate it,” he said.

On the MCO, the senior minister said the police had arrested 606 people for flouting the order yesterday, bringing the total to 20,617 so far.

On public sanitisation operation, Ismail Sabri said 80 operations were conducted yesterday involving 32 government buildings, 32 public places, 55 business centres, and eight hypermarkets.

Meanwhile, he said the meeting of the Special Ministerial Committee on the MCO today decided to allow movement of blood donors to hospitals or health clinics between 10 am and 10 pm daily for the purpose of donating blood.

When asked whether those registered with the Gerak Malaysia mobile app could travel in groups during this MCO, he said the police will issue the standard operating procedures (SOP) and the list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) relating to the matter.

“The SOP will be issued after the Special Ministerial Committees’s meeting on May 1. Then only we will know whether they can travel home or not, or when to travel,” he added.
