Life won’t be the same, embrace the ‘new normal’, says PM

SHAH ALAM, April 10 — Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had today revealed that the number of new positive cases has dropped in the last few days, but had reminded that the battle is far from over.

He said the people have to prepare to face the situation for a longer period of time until the government is confident that the disease has been fully contained.

Even after the Covid-19 outbreak is under control, Muhyiddin said that life will not return to as what it used to be and had told the nation to adapt to the “new normal”.

“It may go on for a few more months before we are able to fully contain the virus. Even so, life will not be the same as it used to be. As long as the virus is still present, we have to keep practising social distancing as well as good hygiene habits and avoid crowded areas.

“In short, our life in the next coming months or year will not be as it used to be. We will be facing the ‘new normal’, we cannot continue our normal daily routines as we did before,” he said in a special broadcast announcing the extension of the movement control order (MCO), today.

As of today, Muhyiddin said a total of 220 Covid-19 patients have fully recovered, which was higher than the daily recorded case of 118.

He said this has pushed the total recoveries to 1,830 or 43 per cent out of the total number of positive cases.

“If this downward trend continues in the next two weeks, we would be able to control the Covid-19 outbreak,” he said.

Earlier, Muhyiddin had announced the extension of the MCO, which was scheduled to end on April 14.

The third phase of the order will begin from April 15 to 28.
