MB joins cops manning roadblock, says still many vehicles on roads

PETALING JAYA, April 7 — There are still many vehicles on the roads despite the added restrictions imposed during the second phase of the movement control order (MCO), says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Menteri Besar said this was the observation made when he joined authorities at one of the roadblocks conducted on the Federal Highway, earlier today.

“During the operation, some of the drivers gave reasonable and valid justifications, but some had given the excuse to go out to buy items that they feel they needed,” he told SelangorKini.

Amirudin had called for the public to comply with the MCO for the sake of the people and the country.

He said everyone has to play their role in helping the government to stop the Covid-19 chain of infection.

“The state government had launched several initiatives, such as e-learning , because we don’t want the people to get bored while staying at home. At least there are beneficial activities that they can do to fill up their time.

“It may be uncomfortable (staying at home), but this is what we have to face together. What is most important is to remain at home and only those working in the essential sector should be allowed to go out to work,” he said.

Yesterday, 403 people were arrested for flouting the MCO, which was less in comparison to the 554 arrests on Sunday.

The police, with the help of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), had conducted 763 roadblocks across the country and inspected 443,160 vehicles on Monday.
