SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 — Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) had mobilised its cleaning contractor to clear the waterway where a black oil spill incident had occurred at Jalan KB1/9 Kampung Baru Balakong.

The agency said the cleaning effort was completed at 11.30pm Wednesday, while periodic surveillance is carried out to ensure the contamination does not affect Sungai Balak and Sungai Langat.

“Luas is collaborating with the National Water Services Commission and Indah Water Consortium in the cleaning efforts of the oil spill which was detected in the streams of Sungai Balak.

“Checks by Luas personnel found that only manual procedure was required due to the small quantity of oil, spilt” it said on Facebook yesterday.

On Tuesday, Luas detected black oil waste pollution at the affected area following public complaints.

Investigations found that the location of the waste had been identified at a stagnant water area where the illegal disposal was suspected to be committed by a third party.

Luas had placed oil pads and oil booms at the pollution site to prevent the oil spill from flowing further into the Sungai Balak stream.
