SHAH ALAM, Nov 10 — An unscheduled water disruption will affect over one million account users in 1,279 areas across the Klang Valley beginning 6pm today, says Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor).
In a statement today, Air Selangor said the forced closure of the Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2, 3, and the Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plants (WTP) due to odour pollution detected in Sungai Selangor will cause water cuts in seven districts, namely Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat.
Earlier, the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) had announced that unidentified solvent pollution detected in the river had caused the four WTPs to cease operations at 12.45pm today.
“Measures have been taken to flush out the contaminated water by releasing 300 million litres per day (MLD) from the Sungai Selangor Dam and pumped 500 MLD from the Sungai Tinggi Dam.
“Luas has also released 192 MLD of water from the KL-Larut alternative water resource pond,” the statement read.
Air Selangor said as of 2.30pm, a level eight threshold odour number (TON) pollution was detected at the intake point of the Rantau Panjang WTP and four TON at the Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2, and 3 WTPs.
“We understand the current situation of the users and the demand of water supply, especially with the rise in Covid-19 cases and the enforced conditional movement control order, and is continuously working on the efforts in minimising the impact on the consumers,” Air Selangor added.
Further information on the water cuts is accessible via Air Selangor’s social media platforms via Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, Air Selangor’s smartphone application as well as its website at www.airselangor.com.
