Covid-19: 4 new clusters detected in Sabah, Penang, Kedah

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 — Four new Covid-19 clusters have been detected in Sabah, Penang and Kedah, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

He said the Istimewa Cluster in Sandakan, Sabah found 16 positive cases including 10 new cases yesterday and the index case (22,026) was tested positive during screening for ward admission on October 20.

“Close contact screening detected 15 more positive cases. All the cases have been admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital and Covid-19 Low Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC) at the Sibuga Sports Complex Hall in Sandakan,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Dr Noor Hisham said the Alila Cluster was detected in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, and the index case (23,498) was positively identified following screening of symptomatic individuals on October 5.

He said close contact screening detected 22 more positive Covid-19 cases and the cases have been warded at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital PKRC.

The third cluster, the Assumption Cluster, involves Seberang Perai Utara and Seberang Perai Tengah districts in Penang as well as Kulim district in Kedah where the index case (42,773) was identified following voluntary screening on November 11.

“Close contact screening has detected another nine positive cases and all of them have been admitted to the Penang Hospital,” he said.

As for the fourth cluster, the Rajawali Cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said it was detected in the northeast and southwest districts of Penang and the index case (39,181) was found positive on November 6.

He also announced the end of two clusters yesterday namely the Bah Lunas Cluster in Baling and Kulim, Kedah and the Bah Bemban Cluster involving Dungun, Terengganu and Kota Kinabalu.
