Covid-19: 41 pct of total daily cases recorded in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, Dec 8 — Selangor has recorded 417 new Covid-19 cases, or 41.2 per cent, out of the daily 1,012 infections recorded nationwide today.

It also saw one imported case registered in Klang out of the seven imported cases in the country.

“Selangor recorded the highest daily cases with 417 infections, followed by Sabah at 271 and Johor with 108 new cases,” said the Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today, adding that 115 cases were from existing clusters and 185 others were from other Covid-19 screenings.

He said Selangor also saw one new cluster out of the two new clusters identified today, called the Seruling Cluster.

“This cluster involves the Klang district, Hulu Selangor and Petaling districts in Selangor with five positive Covid-19 cases recorded since December 4 detected from workplace screening,” he said.

“As of today, 2,267 individuals were screened whereby 109 cases were confirmed positive Covid-19,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said the other new cluster identified in Kuala Lumpur involving Titiwangsa, Cheras and Lembah Pantai, the Tapak Bina Darul Cluster, also includes the Petaling, Sepang, Kuala Langat and Klang districts.

 He said the cluster was detected on December 6 from a targeted workplace screening at a construction site and 14 out of 240 individuals screened were tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, data by the Selangor State Health Department’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) showed the Klang district registering the highest figure with 174 cases, followed by Hulu Langat (144) Petaling (75); while Gombak, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor recorded 7 cases each; Sepang (2) and Hulu Selangor (1).

Sabak Bernam registered zero cases.

As of noon today, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Selangor stands at 17,255 out of the nationwide total of 75,306 cases.
