E-billing of tax saves MBPJ RM800,000

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, Dec 4 — Shifting the billing of assessment tax digitally will save the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) in operational costs of up to RM800,000 a year.

Its mayor Dato’ Mohd Sayuthi Bakar said the e-Cukai@MBPJ will ease the payment process for more than 250,000 property owners in the areas under its purview.

He said throughout the month of January to October this year, MBPJ had received at least 2,000 bills that were returned as the delivery to the property owners was unsuccessful.

“The returns were due to incomplete addresses and other problems during the bill handover process using  addresses of vacant properties.

“(Therefore), we will be able to save on the operational costs if there were no longer tax bills required to be delivered physically as was previously practised,”  he said in his address during the council’s full board meeting November 30.

Mohd Sayuthi said the application, which provides checking services for assessment tax bill, payment and change of mailing addresses, can be downloaded via Google Play Store and Apple App Store from the first quarter of next year onwards.

“The application integrates with ePay@MBPJ. Property owners can carry out assessment tax bill payments online by just using their credit cards, debit cards or the Financial Process Exchanges (FPX).

“The eCukai@MBPJ application operates on realtime payment updates and reduces the need for the community to carry out their business at the MBPJ counters,” he said.

The user manual or guideline can be referred on the e-panduan website which can be downloaded through the
www.mbpj.gov.my website.
