Selangor to achieve 60 pct target in public transport masterplan by 2030

SUBANG JAYA, April 26 — The Selangor government is confident that it would able to achieve the target of a 60:40 public transport to private vehicles ratio in its Selangor Public Transport Masterplan by 2030.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said some of its initiatives such as the Smart Selangor Bus has encouraged the public in using public transport while the state government continues to provide several facilities to make public transport the preferred choice of the people.

“For example today (yesterday), we have launched a pedestrian walkway which would connect residents in the area to the Light Rail Transit (LRT) station. Even though the cost of the project is below RM20,000, it gives a great impact on the locals.

“The master plan was introduced in 2016. At that time, traffic congestion was a prominent issue, especially in the city areas. Only 40 per cent of the people had utilised public transport,” said Amirudin when met after launching the 140-metre pedestrian walkway at the USJ 13/2 playground, here yesterday.

He said the state government will look into the humanitarian aspects and local needs in providing the facilities for the convenience of the community.

“Sometimes it doesn’t require multimillion projects… what is important is that it would benefit the locals and the community.

“For this (walkway) project, it was initiated after a video of an elderly cancer patient regularly using an improper route was recorded,” he added.
