More than 5.7 mln Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, Aug 12 — A total of 5,761,304 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in the state through the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) and Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) as of today.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said of the total, 3,665,093 or 77.17 per cent of the adult population in the state have completed one dose of Covid-19 vaccines, and 2,096,211 or 44.14 per cent have received two doses.

“As for SELvax 266,609 Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered, and of this total 69,847 have completed both doses of the vaccine,” said Amirudin during a virtual press conference on the current vaccination status and efforts in Selangor, aired live on Media Selangor’s Facebook.

Based on the recent vaccination rate, Amirudin is confident that by the end of August or early September, there will be a reduction of Category 3 and 4 cases in the state.

“I am confident we are on the right track to reach herd immunity and to progress to the next phase of the National Recovery Plan (NRP),” he said.

However, he said the data provided to the state may not reflect the true numbers of those who have received their Covid-19 shots in Selangor.

“Today’s figures are based on data received from vaccination centres (PPVs) in the state, there may be some people in Selangor, especially those in Gombak or Petaling and Klang who took the AstraZeneca vaccine at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) which is outside Selangor,” he said.

Amirudin said this data will be synchronised during his next meeting with PICK Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin this week.

“If the full data from the PPVs located outside of Selangor is received, instead of 44.14 per cent (of the adult population in the state that has received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine), it may be 50 per cent as of today,” he said.
