By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

SHAH ALAM, Oct 8 — Seven areas in the state are experiencing low-level flooding stemming from seawater overflow, following the high tide phenomenon today, says the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.

Its director, Norazam Khamis, said the affected areas are Jeti Pelabuhan Selatan in Pengkalan Nelayan Telok Gong; Pantai Remis in Jeram; Sungai Janggut; Pasir Penambang; Kg Tok Muda Kapar; Pantai Morib Lama; Pantai Morib Baru and Pantai Kelanang.

“There was a minor overflow of water, about 0.2 metres high but the situation is under control. The high tide happened at 6am and receded after an hour.

“The situation might become worse if it rains heavily,” he told SelangorKini.

Norazam also reminds the public to take precautionary measures and store away their valuable items and electrical appliances to avoid electrocution.

“We also ask the people to obey the directive to vacate their houses for the sake of their safety.

“We are always on standby and frequent monitoring is being carried out,” he said.

Yesterday, the Kuala Langat Municipal Council advised people living near the sea to be prepared for the high tide phenomenon, which starts today and continues until October 10.

Among the areas put on alert are: Pantai Kelanang; Pantai Baru Morib; Pantai Morib; Taman Harmoni Morib; Istana Bahagia Morib; Pantai Batu Laut; Pantai Chunang and the Tanjung Sepat Jetty.
