Literary works, children’s books prove evergreen popularity at book fair

SHAH ALAM, Dec 13 — Literary works and children’s books are among the most popular genre of books sold at the Selangor Book Fair 2021, said the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS)

Its director Datin Paduka Mastura Muhamad said both genres proved popular as many of the fair’s visitors are parents who bring their children along.

“Asides from literature and children’s books, motivational books on management and self-improvement are also the top choices for visitors.

“The sale of books this time is in balance, and exhibitors are also satisfied as their sales have reach the target, bring reasonable revenue,” she told SelangorKini.

Meanwhile Mastura said the number of visitors to the fair has also reached the organiser’s target, despite having to close for a day to undergo the sanitisation process.

“The visitors come from all walks of life, including teenagers. But the majority have been parents bringing along their children.

“Indeed, some also return with other family members to buy books. We are pleased when parents bring their children along, since it will help to inculcate an interest in reading from an early age,” she said.

Mastura also thanked the state government, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, and local authorities for providing a rental discount and free digital advertising.

The Selangor Book Fair 2021 is held at the Shah Alam Convention Centre, going for 11 days until December 12, starting at 10am until 9pm. Friday and Saturday’s operating hours is extended until 10pm.

Over 200,000 local and international works are on offer, with attractive discounts and up to 152 sales exhibitions.

The fair also offers online book purchasing as a selling point. In addition to other activities, visitors also stand a chance to win RM500 in lucky draws every day.
