Flood victims at Kelanang, Banting moved to relief centres

By Mustakim Ramli

SHAH ALAM, Jan 3 — Some 42 people from 12 families in Kelanang and Banting were relocated to two temporary relief centres (PPS) due to floods yesterday night.

Kuala Langat district officer Mohd Jusni Hashim said this number includes six families and 26 victims at PPS Dewan Kampung Kelanang, with the remainder placed at PPS Dewan Kampung Banting.

“All of them were evacuated at around 11pm, once the water levels of the nearby river began to rise due to heavy rainfall. So far there have been no additional victims, since the water levels began to recede in addition to improving weather,” he said to SelangorKini.

Mohd Jusni added the victims were provided with food and beverage prepared by the Social Welfare Department, while the district health office is monitoring their health levels.

At 10.30am this morning, the water level of the Langat River in Bukit Changgang, Kuala Langat surpassed the danger mark, reading a high of 4.34 metres.

Based on the information at https://publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my, the reading exceeded the normal level of 4.20 metres, due to heavy rainfall in the affected area.

The river’s water level in Dengkil, Sepang, also read at 6.68 metres, and was similarly caused by rainfall.
