Focus on Klang Valley post-flood repairs

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

SHAH ALAM, Jan 21 — Focus must be given on post-flood repair work in the Klang Valley as it is the centre of Malaysia economy.

Kota Raja MP Mohamad Sabu said the area’s population ranged from high-income earners to the low income (B40) group.

Thus, Mohamad said the Federal government needs to take care of the Klang Valley by making the repairs because the people are not angry and continue to agree on a joint solution for this problem.

“Aside from that, the agency in charge of the weather must be more aware. The weather report only mentioned heavy rains in Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Pahang but not in Selangor.

“It means, Selangor is only predicted to have rain and thunderstorm, only when the flood occurred that the whole of Klang Valley is mentioned as the red zone,” he said while debating the recent flood disaster during a special sitting in Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad described the government as not serious in dealing with the flood problem because it did not discuss and debate the matter on December 20.

In fact, Khalid also informed that the bill to amend the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) which should have been tabled on that day was also not debated.

“How much is wasted in calling elected representatives throughout the country but there is no debate and even the issue of floods was not debated despite requests made.

“People are asking for help but there is no action. Do not give trivial excuses and waste the people’s and country’s money,” he said.
