PKPS: Over 3,500 chickens sold under food prices intervention programme to date

SHAH ALAM, Feb 16 — A total of 3,679 standard chicken at RM8 per kg and 148 cartons of chicken eggs at RM11.70 per carton have been sold so far.

The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) said this is the total sales calculation since the Ehsan Food Prices Intervention Programme on chicken meat and egg was introduced on February 7.

“The sales come from two main locations, namely the Selangor Wholesale Market in Seri Kembangan and Wisma PKPS in Section 14 Shah Alam, as well as through three PKPS Lori Ehsan that travel to three different locations throughout Selangor daily.

“On average, each Lori Ehsan records sales in excess of RM5,000 a day,” an agency spokesman informed SelangorKini.

The state government announced the selling of 50,000 standard chicken at a ceiling price of RM8 per kg for two weeks starting February 7, to reduce the burden of rising food prices.

The price of eggs was also reduced to RM11.70 from RM12.40 per carton and all the price reduction costs would be borne by PKPS through a RM1 million fund.

After receiving encouraging feedback, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari expanded the Ehsan Food Prices Intervention Programme to encompass the entire state.

Meanwhile, residents in the Pandan Indah and Teratai constituencies can buy the standard chicken at RM8 per kg at Lori Ehsan, which will make a stop there tomorrow.

The PKPS-owned grocery truck will begin operating at 9am, and also sells chicken eggs, fruits and vegetables.

“Each Lori Ehsan carries a total of 200 standard chickens, 150 chicken egg cartons and 50 packets of fruits and vegetables,” an agency spokesman informed SelangorKini.
