All areas in Selangor to experience thunderstorms, heavy rains this evening

SHAH ALAM, March 7 — All areas in Selangor are forecasted to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong wind until 7pm today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) on Twitter said other areas that will be hit with similar weather included Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

The warning was issued at 4pm and also covers all areas in Penang and Perak.

Meanwhile, the agency said several areas in Pahang including in Raub, Bentong and Temerloh; Kedah (Yan, Kuala Muda and Baling); Johor (Tangkak, Segamat and Muar) as well as Sabah in Tuaran and Ranau are also expected to be hit by thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong wind.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur in excess of an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
