SUBANG JAYA, March 4 — Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has issued 850 temporary licences to unlicensed small traders and those affected by Covid-19 to help them run a business.

Its mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said the move aligns with the state government’s efforts to help its people get back on their feet.

“We give them a chance to run a business by issuing them a temporary licence and providing a suitable location. We urge those interested in applying for the licence.

“We are responsible for ensuring that the economic development of the people of Petaling Jaya runs smoothly,” he said when met at the back-to-school shopping programme at Mydin Hypermarket in USJ here, yesterday.

On February 21, state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han had stated that the Selangor administration had issued more than 10,000 temporary licences to unlicensed traders and individuals impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last December, the timeframe for the issuance of the temporary licensing for small traders is extended for another six months until June.

Initially, the initiative was slated to end last year but was extended to help those hit by the pandemic.

The temporary licences were distributed to the targetted groups in August last year. The local authorities are also tasked to provide them with a suitable location and ensure their safety.
