HULU SELANGOR, March 12 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari once again advised residents in Taman Bukit Permai 2, Ampang, to evacuate their homes temporarily.
He made that appeal to the residents of 48 houses located in the vicinity of the landslide.
“The evacuation period will not take too long, only for three to four days or a maximum of five, which is until we obtain approval from the relevant authorities in charge of checking the safety of the collapsed slope.
“If the study finds it is safe to occupy (the houses), the residents can return to their respective homes and remedial work at the landslide site will be carried out immediately.
“However, if they wanted to stay in their homes, I ask them to take precautions because the location is still at risk,” he said at the launch of Ion Belian Garden housing project here today.
Commenting further, Amirudin said they are is still waiting for results from a study conducted by the Public Works Department, Public Works Institute of Malaysia (Ikram) and the Mineral and Geoscience Department (JMG) on the incident.
“They have asked for three days and after that, we will look into the next step of action, including carrying out clean-up and slope restoration work which cannot be carried out now.
“Regarding the 150 high-risk slopes that could possibly trigger landslides in Selangor, this matter will be discussed. We are in the process of monitoring the slopes and ways to deal with it, especially with the climate change and unpredictable weather conditions,” he said.
Yesterday, after a visit to the landslide site, Amirudin informed that no logging or land clearing activities were carried out nearby.
The landslide which occurred on March 10 claimed four lives and caused injuries to another victim while affecting 15 houses and 10 vehicles.
