Selangor allocates nearly RM8 billion for flood mitigation projects

By Norrasyidah Arshad

DAMANSARA, March 25 — The state government has allocated almost RM7.7 billion for flood mitigation projects in Selangor.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the projects will commence soon beginning with the deepening of the Sungai Klang.

“This process is also part of the Sungai Klang development plan project that was tabled during the state executive councillors’ retreat recently.

“Half of the total cost will be borne by the Menteri Besar (Incorporated) or MBI,” he said at a press conference after officiating the Pasar PJKita@Sri Damansara here, today.

In December last year, Amirudin had announced that some RM60 million will be allocated for the long-term flood mitigation project this year.

The amount was equal to the allocation in 2020, however, the expenditure for that year was only between RM40 million to RM45 million due to restrictions from the enforcement of the movement control orders (MCOs).
