Mais channels RM11.2 mln to riqab rehabilitation homes in state

SHAH ALAM, April 13 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) today distributed contributions totalling RM11.2 million to 24 Riqab Rehabilitation Homes (RPR) around Selangor to ensure the welfare of the asnaf riqab group is protected.

MAIS chairman Tan Sri Abd Aziz Mohd Yusof said the money would be used to cover the management cost and carry out programmes at RPR under the council’s purview for this year.

“I am confident that RPR can fully utilise the allocation to continue to guide and provide rehabilitation to this group to help them return to the true path of Islam,” he told reporters after officiating the Tadarus Perdana Riqab Mais 2022 programme, here today.

Among the RPRs that received the contributions were Rumah Pemulihan Akhlak Insani, Rumah Solehah, Rumah Bela Insan and Rumah Perlindungan dan Bimbingan Wanita Bayt Rahmah.

Asnaf riqab are those who are plagued with social problems such as drug addicts, lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders, as well as people with mental illnesses.

Abd Aziz said MAIS also contributed RM293,920 to 1,117 asnaf riqab in the state to help them make early preparations for the upcoming Aidilfitri celebrations.
