PKR polls to strengthen party structure — Saifuddin

By Norrasyidah Arshad

PETALING JAYA, May 8 — The PKR party elections would not lead to the party’s disunity but instead strengthen its leadership structure, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The PKR secretary-general stressed that the party polls would not be held if it would bring a harmful impact ahead of the 15th general election (GE), which is rumoured to take place soon.

“Why do the party election? Why would we have it when the GE is getting closer? People would associate it with disunity. (But) If we are weak and there is a split, how would we face the GE?

“PKR is a reformist party. We practice democracy. Therefore, we want to show that the party’s election would not split the spirit of camaraderie of the member,” he said during the launch of Gagasan #KITASEMUAKEADILAN here, yesterday.

Not wanting PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to bear the burden of leading the party alone, Saifuddin said the party polls are important to fill up the significant posts which are vacant due to the Sheraton Move.

“It is unfair to burden the president. When things were not in our favour, everyone blamed him. Therefore, we have to fill the void and strengthen the party ahead of the GE,” said Saifuddin, who is contesting for the deputy president post.

A total of 11,282 candidates for the PKR 2022 election at the division level and central leadership positions are to contest in the party’s election this month.
