Squalls ahoy for a few Selangor districts tonight — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, May 13 — Strong winds, heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected in three Selangor districts until later tonight, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)

In a statement issued at 7.55pm, the agency said these districts include Hulu Selangor, Petaling and Hulu Langat.

“Other states and areas which will also be affected include Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Kubang Pasu in Kedah, Jelebu in Negeri Sembilan, and Johor Bahru in Johor.

“Elsewhere Perak (Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim) Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu and Marang) and Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub and Bentong) will also be affected,” it said.

In East Malaysia, Sarawak’s affected areas include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Betong (Pusa and Betong), Sarikei (Pakan and Julau), Sibu (Kanowit and Selangau), Mukah (Dalat and Mukah), Kapit (Kapit and Belaga) and Bintulu.

For Sabah it is Pantai Barat (Putatan, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Ranau and Kota Belud), Sandakan (Telupid and Beluran) and Kudat.

The weather pattern is expected to persist until 10pm.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
