SHAH ALAM, June 15 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has congratulated the Harimau Malaya squad that qualified on merit for the 2023 Asian Cup finals after beating Bangladesh 4-1 yesterday.

He also expressed his gratitude for the success achieved by the team coached by Kim Pan Gon.

“Alhamdulillah (Praise to Allah), the Harimau Malaya squad managed to book a slot for the 2023 Asian Cup! The last time we managed to do it on merit was during the 1980 edition.

“Congratulations to the Malaysian football team and not forgetting the loyal supporters who never stop cheering!” he said on Facebook today.

In the game played at Bukit Jalil National Stadium last night, Malaysia recorded a new history by ending a 42-year wait to compete in the finals of the prestigious cup

The last time Malaysia made an appearance at the Asian Cup finals was in 2007 as joint hosts, having failed for 42 years to qualify on merit since 1980 in Kuwait.
