SHAH ALAM, June 15 — The newly-formed Selangor Public Health Advisory Council (Selphac) is a proactive measure taken by the state government to protect the people of Selangor by improving the public health system.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic had brought the importance of the health system to the fore and prompted the state government set up various health programmes, including Selangor Saring, the heart treatment scheme, and the tuberculosis treatment incentive.

“Selphac will promote fresh ideas in order to ensure that strengthening actions are carefully thought out.

“With experience in administration and management from the Covid-19 pandemic, Selangor is confident in its ability to achieve more success and build a better future. May this initiative safeguard our shared future,” he said in a Facebook post last night.

Selphac, according to Amirudin was formed by a team of leaders and experts comprising state leaders, key implementing agencies, the Selangor State Health Department, medical experts in various fields as well as academicians.

It also includes former members of the Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC), representatives from the health industry, Malaysian medical associations and public health experts associations.

“The members of the committee also bring together a variety of viewpoints to ensure that the implementation is comprehensive and targeted.

“This effort is in line with the Health Ministry’s aspirations, which emphasise the setting up of a Malaysian National Health Agenda (ANMS) Committee at the state level,” said Amirudin.

Launched on June 7, Selphac was formed to strengthen the structure and functions of the public health standing committee.
