State reps must be creative to attract people to join Selangor Saring

KUALA SELANGOR, June 12 — State representatives are being urged to be creative in organising the Selangor Saring health screening programme, says the Selangor Public Health Advisory Council (Selphac).

Its committee member Dr Mohammad Farhan Rusli said the move could pique constituents’ interest in participating in the programme and becoming more aware of their health status.

“Take, for example, the Permatang constituency. Its state assemblyman had enlisted the help of state government agencies to set up counters to promote the various initiatives to those who were eligible.

“By doing so, more people were persuaded to come. We had over 100 participants in less than an hour, and we expect even more people to come to get their health checked,” he said today when met at the Selangor Saring initiative at Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Seri Tiram.

The state government has allocated RM3.4 million for Selangor Saring and the initiative is expected to benefit up to 39,000 people, particularly those with a family history of illnesses, overweight individuals, or those leading unhealthy lifestyles.

The programme, which runs until September 4 across the state, includes physical screenings, blood and urine tests, eye exams, and cancer early detection tests.
