SHAH ALAM, July 16 — The state government remains committed to championing efforts on environmental protection, says state executive councillor for environment and green technology Hee Loy Sian.

However, Hee said the cooperation from the stakeholders is crucial in formulating the state’s climate change agenda and to include it into development plans and implementation of policy.

Following the impact of climate change on the people, Hee said the state government had approved the setting up of the Selangor Climate Change Action Committee or IklimSelangor on May 18.

“IklimSelangor serves as an advisory body to assist the state administration in the planning, implementation and monitoring of projects, as well as proposing solutions to issues that arise related to climate change and the environment.

“Apart from that, IklimSelangor also helps to identify integrated actions to achieve the sustainable development goals,” he said in a statement today.

Hee said the advanced technology and Industrial Revolution 4.0 era have become the catalyst to the effort of conserving the state’s ecosystem, which would lead to creating a more comfortable future.

“We hope the people in Selangor would support the climate change policy and fulfil our responsibility to protect the earth for the future generation,” he said.

Meanwhile, IklimSelangor will comprise representatives from both the Federal and state government departments and agencies, government-linked companies, academics and technical expertise, non-governmental organisations and state assemblymen.
