KLANG, July 1 — Selangor is expected to garner RM3 billion of investments in the second quarter of this year based on the investment potential it generated during the state’s trade mission to South Korea in June.

State executive councillor for trade and investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said if the investments are successful, it would help the state gets RM6 billion of investment this year, thus surpassing the total number of investment it received in 2021.

“The generated investment potential is more than RM3 billion but so far it is just potential and we are still waiting for the final decision from the interested investors.

“As for now, we are satisfied with this development. In the first quarter of this year, we have received RM3 billion of investment,” he said after distributing ‘korban’ coupons to 21 suraus at Madrasah Darissalmiah here today.

Teng was confident that the state’s target of achieving investment potentials of up to RM28 billion this year could be achieved.

“Because of Covid-19, in 2021 we received only RM7.5 billion but if compared to previous years we got more than that.

“Each year between 2018 to 2020 we received more than RM17 billion but due to the pandemic, the number has decreased,” he said.

Last month, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has embarked on a visit to South Korea to continue the state’s investment mission after a hiatus of almost two years.

His visit to the country, famous for its halyu K-pop phenomenon and technological advancements, was accompanied by Teng.

During the visit, Amirudin and Teng managed to meet several companies which expressed interest in investing in Selangor and sharing in its success.
