Selangor proposes 12 rail routes under state’s public transport masterplan — Exco

SHAH ALAM, July 28 — The state government has identified 12 corridors for rail transportion under the Selangor Public Transport Masterplan.

State executive councillor for public transportation Ng Sze Han said, however, the federal government has not yet provided the state with feedback on the proposal.

“We have proposed and presented the master plan to the Transport Ministry under the 12th Malaysia Plan but they have yet to reply,” he said when answering a question from Taman Templer state assemblyman Sany Hamzan on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rapid Transit (LRT) public transportation in Bandar Baru Selayang.

Ng added that Bandar Baru Selayang already has the MRT, LRT and KTM Komuter facilities for public transportation facilities in addition to bus services that connect users to the stations.

“We did not request for MRT, LRT and (KTM) Komuter facilities at Bandar Baru Selayang as the state level as it would incur a high costs and it is the Federal government’s responsibility,” he said.

On April 26, 2021, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had voiced his confidence that the state administration would be able to achieve the target of a 60:40 ratio between public transportion and private vehicles ratio in its Selangor Public Transport Masterplan by 2030, which currently stands at 20 per cent.

He said that some of the state programmes, such as the Smart Selangor Bus, have encouraged people to use public transportation, and that it would continue offering a number of facilities to make public transportation a preferred choice.
