Batu Tiga state constituency collecting funds to buy boat for flood operations

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SHAH ALAM, Aug 21 — Batu Tiga state assemblyman Rodziah Ismail is sourcing for funding to purchase a boat as part of the efforts to strengthen the state constituency’s disaster relief squad.

She said life jackets have already been distributed to all members, to facilitate the mission of rescuing residents in the event of a flood.

“Currently we are obtaining funds to buy a boat. This is to prepare in the event the floodings which occurred in December last year repeat again,” Rodziah said during her inspection of the Selangor Saring free health screening programme at Section 24 earlier today.

“This time we want to be more ready. However, we hope the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) will carry out works to immediately deepen the river and accommodate the water capacity. The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) should similarly be ready at all times.”

Late yesterday afternoon, several roads in Taman Sri Muda, Section 25, including Jalan Harapan, Jalan Waja, Jalan Makmur and Jalan Mahir, became inundated following heavy rainfall at 4pm.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and public utilities Izham Hashim stated the flash flood occurred due to the high water level in Sungai Rasau, in addition to the dead water situation which delayed the flow of water out to the river.

He instructed the Selangor JPS to immediately activate the system and open the pump gate at Taman Sri Muda.

By 6.30pm, the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) announced the flash flood had receded completely.

As part of its initial preparations, the Selangor JBPM mobilised several rescue boats, Fire Rescue Tender engines, Emergency Rescue and Treatment Services vans, together with 24 personnel including three senior officers to the location.
