Thunderstorms, heavy rain warning in Klang Valley until 6pm

SHAH ALAM, Aug 20 — The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya until 6pm today.

In the warning issued at 4.15pm on Facebook, the state of Kelantan is also expected to see wet weather.

It also warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms in several areas within the states of Perak (Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Terengganu (Besut), Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Kuantan, Bera, Pekan and Rompin), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Jempol), Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru), Sarawak: Mukah (Dalat and Mukah) and Bintulu, and Sabah: Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan and Sandakan).

The warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm/hour which are expected to take place for over an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning which is valid within six hours after it was issued.
