Free health checks at Selangor Penyayang roadshow next month

SUBANG JAYA, Sept 25 — The second phase of the state’s free health screening programme Selangor Saring, will be continued at the Selangor Penyayang (JSP) roadshow next month.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the decision to continue the programme was made following encouraging responses from the public, even though the initiative ended on September 11.

“The programme received good responses with over 66 per cent of individuals who registered via the SELangkah mobile app had undergone the screening, throughout its instalments in 56 state constituencies.

“It was a pilot project and Selangor has succeeded in providing health screening to its people for free. The Selangor Saring programme did not focus on patients who have been diagnosed with the disease but on those who are at risk of developing an illness due to their family history or being overweight,” she said.

Dr Siti Mariah said this when met during the launching of Medan Selera Puchong Permai, here today. Also present was Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Johary Anuar.

The second phase of the Selangor Penyayang roadshow will continue in several districts including Klang, Sabak Bernam, Sepang and Hulu Selangor, focusing on the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) agenda as well as the 2023 Selangor Budget.

Commenting further, Siti Mariah said the preliminary analysis shows that the situation of non-communicable diseases in the community is quite worrying.

“For example, in Klang alone, there are over 1,000 individuals who are at risk of developing kidney failure should they continue to ignore their health condition. If nothing is being done, more people will be in need of dialysis in the long term,” she said.

On September 22, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the Selangor Saring programme received overwhelming responses with over 45,000 individuals taking part in the programme, surpassing the initial target of 31,000 participants.

He informed that out of the total, some 4,809 individuals have been referred for further treatment.
