SABAK BERNAM, Sept 14 — The concessionaire of the West Coast Highway (WCE) has been told to clean up its drainages which are believed to be the cause of flooding in several nearby areas in Sekinchan.
Sekinchan state assemblyman Ng Suee Lim said the roads along the highway route still come under the responsibility of WCE until next year.
“We have asked them to clean all the drains on the left and right side of the road to avoid blockages and they have started doing it.
“In addition, the broken bunds will be upgraded and repaired by the Drainage and Irrigation (DID) in the near future at a cost of RM100,000,” he said after the special flood disaster aid presentation ceremony at Dewan Seri Sekinchan, here.
Ng who is also Selangor State Legislative Assembly Speaker said works to clean the drain and upgrade the bunds were among the efforts to avoid flooding following the forecast of heavy rain that was predicted to hit at the end of this year.
Earlier, a total of 515 victims who were affected by the Sekinchan floods in May this year received the assistance of RM300 each.
The flood occurred as a result of heavy rain from 11am to 2pm, in addition to the high-tide phenomenon which caused the victims’ homes to be flooded by nearly half a metre of water.
