KLANG, Sept 6 — Some 28 Selangor athletes received RM92,900 in special incentives from the state government, as recognition of their efforts in contributing medals for the Malaysian contingent during the Hanoi SEA Games and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games earlier this year.

The presentation to the athletes was officiated by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, at Istana Alam Shah, earlier today.

Accompanying His Highness during the presentation was Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Selangor State Government Secretary Datuk Haris Kasim, state executive councillor of sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman, and Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi.

In his speech, Amirudin said approximately RM59,900 has been allocated for SEA Games athletes, with the remainder RM33,000 for Commonwealth Games athletes.

“This award serves as encouragement and inspiration to all other athletes in continuing to persevere and improve their performance, so they can compete at the highest levels.

“We greatly appreciate the commitment and cooperation given. Hopefully, this will continue in the future with the ultimate aim of maintaining Selangor as the leading state in sporting excellence,” he said.

At the Hanoi SEA Games, Selangor athletes consisted of 62 individuals out of a total of 612 national athletes, of which 27 contributed medals to the nation’s overall tally of 39 golds and sixth place among the participating countries.

In the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, up to two gold medals and one silver medal were contributed by Selangor athletes, which enabled the Malaysian contingent to garner tenth place out of 43 participating nations.
