SHAH ALAM, Oct 26 — Support from the state government through the Selangor Indian Empowerment and Entrepreneurs Development (i-SEED) programmes has enabled barber shop operator G Rajiv to expand his business.

Rajiv, 31, who hails from Jenjarom, Kuala Langat, said that among the assistance received from the state is worth RM4,000 including adjustable barber chairs, mirrors and hair cutting tools and clippers.

He said that in 2019, he had started with one outlet, which has now expanded to two other locations, namely in Jenjarom and Banting.

“With the support (from the state), I was able to service more customers and as sales increased, I used the profit to open two more outlets.

“I want to express my gratitude to the state government and the i-SEED team for their commitment to encouraging young people and those in the B40 group to pursue careers in business,” he told SelangorKini on October 14.

Rajiv is among nearly 3,000 small traders who have benefitted from the i-SEED and Sitham programmes.

The following are several feedbacks from the recipients under the programmes between November 2021 and February 2022:

  • “When I first applied for the Sitham tools grant, I was advised to also apply for a loan for a food truck. Surprisingly, I was able to get both.” — Biriyani rice seller S Ramesh
  • “The assistance has a great impact on me because if I had to use my funds, it would be estimated to be worth RM3,800. It would take a longer time to save up that amount.” — Car wash operator R Rashwin
  • “I used to take longer time to complete the orders I received from my customers. But with the sewing machine I received from Sitham, my customers are more satisfied as the waiting period is shortened.” — Traditional clothing tailor M Rajeswari
