GE15: Anwar hints PKR to send Selangor’s ‘commander’ to contest in Gombak

By Jerry Choong

SHAH ALAM, Oct 26 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has hinted that the party will field incumbent Sungai Tua assemblyman Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari as its candidate for the Gombak parliamentary seat in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).

Speaking at the launch of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) election machinery for Selangor earlier tonight, which was broadcasted live online, Anwar said in an unofficial announcement that Amirudin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, would be ‘tasked’ to look after Gombak.

This was after Anwar had recalled the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government in 2020, which he said was due to the work of ‘traitors’ in PKR, who he insinuated to include the incumbent Gombak MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“We (PH) have not betrayed the (people’s) trust. What is worse are the treacherous Malay leaders, including some of the traitors in PKR who caused this (PH) government to fall… That is Amir’s (Amirudin) job to take care of Gombak.

“We are sending Selangor’s main commander to face off in Gombak,” he said, which was followed by a loud cheer from the crowd.

“This is not an official announcement. That will be made on the 28th (of October).”

PH is expected to announce the PKR candidates for all seats in GE15, at 8:30pm this Friday, which will take place at Padang MPAJ Taman Kosas in Ampang.

Throughout his ceramah, Anwar said there is hardly any difference between Perikatan Nasional (PN) under former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who took over following the fall of the PH government, to Barisan Nasional (BN) under caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“The Cabinet has 30 ministers, the most in the world. Malaysia under them has endured the longest Covid-19 lockdown in the world.

“They refuse to listen to other views, despite being given sound advice. We do not even have to accuse them of anything, merely ask for things like how much projects cost, what was the tendering process like, and others.

“Yet no answers are given, either because they are unable to do so, or are too arrogant to provide any,” he said.

The launch, held on the grounds of Dewan Kampung Assam Jawa in Kuala Selangor, also saw other speakers, including Amirudin, DAP Assistant national publicity secretary Hannah Yeoh, Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil, as well as incumbent Kuala Selangor MP Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, who has announced his intent to defend his seat in GE15.
