SHAH ALAM, Oct 19 — Koridor Utiliti Selangor Sdn Bhd (Kusel) has donated flood operation equipment to local authorities and several Selangor District and Land Offices in preparation for floods in the state.

Kusel chairman Izham Hasmin said the donation included 14 units of portable electric power generators and 14 units of high-pressure cleaning jets, which were handed over to eight local authorities and six offices in areas which face a high risk of flooding during the Northeast Monsoon expected later this year.

“In addition, a Boston Whaler safety boat was also donated. This boat with an OMB 15HP engine is capable of carrying eight passengers at a time, and will be used by the state government for rescue missions during the flood season.

“Last year’s floods caused destruction of property and loss of life which resulted in approximately RM1.4 billion of losses. So, this assistance and support is important to ensure the works undertaken during the flood season can be carried out properly,” he said.

Izham, who is also the state executive councillor of infrastructure, was speaking at the handover ceremony for the equipment, earlier today.

He said the donated equipment can ensure the authorities receive the necessary support and assistance for search and rescue missions during the flood season.

Previously, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) identified eight Selangor districts as frequent flood locations, namely Klang, Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Langat, Sepang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor.
