MB: Selangor will not dissolve state assembly, to handle floods instead

By Zareef Muzammil

GOMBAK, Oct 10 — The Selangor government remains firm in its stance to not dissolve the State Legislative Assembly, should the 15th General Election take place this year.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state’s priority at this time is to handle the issue of floods, as well as alleviate the economy for the people.

“We have been consistent in our stance of focusing on the floods and economic recovery. If we forget these matters, the situation will become even more chaotic.

“But there are those (in the Federal government) who do not understand but instead push for a general election to be held,” he said during the Maulidur Rasul 1444H celebrations for the Gombak Setia state constituency, at Masjid Kampung Gombak Utara earlier today.

Amirudin, who is also Pakatan Harapan Selangor chairman, said the hasty act of conducting a general election at this stage will only backfire.

“Arrogant behaviour such as this backfire on themselves, so no matter…we will prioritise the people, InsyaAllah,” he said.

On October 5, Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Selangor, Negeri Sembilan dan Penang under the coalition’s leadership will not dissolve their respective state assemblies, in the event the 15th General Election is held this year.

He said the focus of all three state administrations is to handle the flooding issue which will have a major impact on the rakyat.

Earlier today in a special address, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of the 14th Parliament of Malaysia, after obtaining the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah during an audience at midday yesterday.
