Build bund on illegal waste site of Taman Puncak Jalil to prevent sewage from flowing

SERI KEMBANGAN, Dec 6 — The Selangor government will build bunds at the illegal waste disposal site near Taman Puncak Jalil, here, to prevent sewage waste water from flowing into the nearby ponds.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the short-term solution is expected to reduce the anxiety of around 10,000 residents, including those living in Bukit Serdang 5 who are forced to smell the stench every day.

“This illegal garbage disposal centre stopped operating two years ago, (however) the big issue now is that the garbage that is left drains water from the sewage waste and leaves a bad smell in the environment.

“This step needs to be taken immediately to prevent leachate from flowing into water areas or ponds. In a few weeks, Puncak Jalil will be a little more comfortable and we will use effective microbes (EM) to reduce the stench,” he said yesterday.

Amirudin was speaking to reporters after conducting a site visit with Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin, Selangor state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han, Subang Jaya Mayor Datuk Johary Anuar, Petaling District officer Mohd Jusni Hashim and Selangor Environment Department director Nor Aziah Jaafar.

Commenting further, he said the Petaling District and Land Office will be calling 15 landowners in the area soon to discuss follow-up actions.

“To start, we will ask them to allow Worldwide Holding Berhad to enter the area for the land treatment process with an estimated cost of between RM2 to RM3 million.

“If they agree, we will carry out the treatment process, which is expected to take between two to three months depending on the amount of garbage,” he said.

Earlier, Selangorkini surveyed the location and found that the site had formed a gorge with a stream of thick black water flowing into several ponds and there were hundreds of dogs roaming around.
